Introduction

The fifth mathematics and physical sciences graduate congress (MPSGC), a special international graduate meeting, is organized by Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University in the collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS) and university of Malaya (UM). As the three institutions aim to produce broadly trained research scientists, it is expected that the congress will provide a greater understanding and knowledge of sciences and enable graduates to make future advances in the field. In addition, the congress is expected to provide an opportunity for graduate students in mathematics, chemistry, physics, computer science, materials science and so on, to come together, exchange ideas, and present the latest findings of their work. This meeting will strengthen network and cooperation among graduates from the Southeast Asian universities and others who are interested in science and technology.

Scientific program

The congress program will include plenary sessions, oral and poster presentations.
The main topics are:

    • Mathematics and Computational Science
    • Physics and Materials Science
    • Chemistry
Objectives

The primary objective of the MPSGC is to provide postgraduates from various backgrounds a convergence point and a common platform to present and discuss their research findings. This meeting will be an international forum on the recent development of research in both mathematical and physical sciences carried out regionally. It is hoped that such a diverse forum will pique the scientific curiosity of these young minds, and cement their appreciation of not only their own disciplines, but other related ones. Moreover, despite its academic nature, this event will also provide an exposure to multi-cultural interests among the graduates from this region. Such appreciation and exposure will surely be the seed to the growth and flowering of inter-disciplinary and inter-institution collaborative programs in the future. Another benefit of this event, in addition to the exchange of scientific ideas, is the provision of an avenue for networking among graduates in the region, indirectly enhancing their organizational and communication skills.
